Four Bedroomed Farmhouse - Staffordshire
A remote stone built four bedroom detached farm house situated at an elevation of over 1300 feet above sea level in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Due to the severe weather and traditional rubble filed stone construction, the winter heating requirements of this property are high. With a large amount of wood available and no mains gas, the owners opted to install a Perge 5-20 wood-fired boiler with a 1500 litre Akvaterm accumulator. The boiler and accumulator were installed in an adjoining outbuilding and the pipe work was extended through from where a solid fuel central heating cooker was previously installed. By siting the boiler in the outbuilding, it allowed good access for the wood without having to take fuel through the house. The accumulator can be charged by an evening firing of the boiler (6-6.30 pm onwards) and provides full central heating and hot water requirements for the next day. An economy 7 nightime tariff meter has been installed by the electricity provider and this can be used to fully charge the accumulator automatically if the boiler is not lit. This still provides central heating at a lower cost (10-15%) than oil and is zero maintenance. Use of the perge boiler has provided substantial savings in heating costs and the boiler is always running at optimum efficiency when charging the accumulator.
Three Bedroom Barn Conversion – South Staffordshire
Having suffered damage to his property in the recent floods, our customer approached Perge UK to assess and specify a whole house heating solution that could be fuelled by wood.
Having been convinced of the benefits that wood could give him, we recommended the following system be installed
Perge 5 - 20 kW Log Fired Boiler
2000Litre Accumulator Tank and Charging Unit
The boiler and tank were installed in an adjoining stable block, and pipe work fed to the main house. This was then linked into an existing gravity fed system, which meant minimal work and disruption, as well as reducing the overall cost of the installation. The boiler is fired daily during the winter to charge the accumulator tank, but can fired less frequently during the summer months. By installing the accumulator tank, the customer has the flexibility to install Solar Heating in the future which can link directly into the accumulator to provide water during the summer months if needed.
